Zhoushan City in China is a charming island city. This project is located on Huanglong Island, which is part of the Shengsi Islands.

The island's intricate terrain, winding coast, and scattered bays are attributed to its steep natural rock formations. Almost all the residential buildings on the island are made of local stones, resembling a vast museum of natural stone architecture, with stone roads, steps, walls, and more.

The Chinese word for 'rock' combines the elements of '岩' (natural rock) and '石' (artificial stone). On this island with an ample and unique natural environment of coastal rocks, although our buildings are artificial, they should still be sustainable, hidden in the rock cluster, and created in a natural form rather than with excessive artificial techniques.

The terrain within the base is steep and has a large elevation difference, so the buildings are arranged in a stepped pattern with staggered sinking and raising in the plane layout, to conform as much as possible to the original rock terrain and form a natural and patchwork skyline.

The main materials of the building are local hewn stone, concrete, and corten steel, which can not only adapt to the unique extreme climate and waves of the island, but also harmoniously coexist with the surrounding landforms and villages.

Entering the room through the entrance passage, what greets the eye is a huge and empty rock hall. We have preserved the original rocks, allowing them to retain their natural state within the indoor space. When the sun shines through the roof, people can feel the eternal nature of creation under the passage of time.

The guest rooms are arranged on the coastal and mountainous sides, each with an independent balcony. The main material is glass, which contrasts sharply with the stone, as if floating on the sea and enjoying the ultimate view.

The "stone" elements such as natural rocks, stone materials, and stone artworks run through every space of the entire building, as if the building itself grows together with the rocks. The boundaries between inside and outside become blurred, creating a harmonious sense of nature. This is what we hope the Huanglong Island Hotel can bring to people - a comfortable natural residence, in close contact with the wild, sky, sea, and nature, creating the most unique experience.
